Mission

The mission of the Celtic American Association of Northeast Tennessee (C.A.A.) is to promote, enhance, and preserve awareness and interest in Celtic Culture through a common bond of friendship.  The aim of the C.A.A. is to foster Celtic traditions, music, literature, art, and history by providing Celtic oriented experiences for members and the community at large.

Article 1:  Membership

The Celtic American Association is not politically or religiously oriented.  The C.A.A. does not restrict membership based on ethnic, cultural, or religious heritage.  The C.A.A. encourages membership of any person interested in the mission of this organization.

An annual fee will be charged for membership.  The amount of the fee will be determined by a majority vote by the Board of Officers.  The annual fee will remain the same from year to year unless a majority of the officers vote to change the fee.  Yearly membership will be from the first day in March to the end of February.  Association members with Family membership will be entitled to two votes on election or other voting matters. All other memberships will be entitled to one vote.

Article 2:  Board of Officers

Officers of the CAA will be elected for a term of one year by a majority vote of members present at the annual general meeting.  Only members in good standing in the Association will be permitted to vote.  In the event that a majority is not attained by any of the candidates, there will be a run-off election between the top two candidates at that same meeting.

All officers will be elected on a yearly basis.  Each officer, except the President, can be re-elected as often as the membership chooses to elect him or her.  The President may serve no more than two consecutive one-year terms.  The President can be elected again after two years have lapsed since his/her last term.

Terms of office will be from February 1 through January 31 of the following year.  All officers must be current members of the Association.

The CAA Board of Officers is made up of the following:

President:  The President is the executive officer with the authority to call general meetings, preside at all meetings, and form committees for a variety of purposes.

Vice-president:  The Vice-President is second in authority to the president.  The vice-president assumes the responsibilities of the President if the President is unable or unwilling to carry out his or her responsibilities.

Treasurer:  The Treasurer authorizes expenditures and maintains financial records.  The Treasurer's signature and the signature of the President or the Vice-President must be on all checks designated for expenditures or for reimbursement of expenditures.  Expenditures over $100.00 must be approved by a majority vote of the Board of Officers.

Secretary:  The Secretary keeps minutes of each called meeting of the Association.  This officer will maintain a record of all general and all meetings of the Board of Officers.  The minutes of each meeting of the Board of Officers must be read and either approved without modification or approved with modification at the next meeting of the Board of Officers.  The minutes of each general meeting must be read and either approved without modification or with modification at the next general meeting.

Public Relations Coordinator:  This officer will maintain contact with members of the community at large and promote events sponsored or supported by the Association.

Membership Coordinator:  This officer will keep a record of all current members, conduct membership drives, and collect dues from members.  The membership coordinator provides members cards and dues receipts for members.  This officer is also responsible for ensuring that all funds collected as membership dues are forwarded to the Treasurer.

Events and Cultural Coordinator:  The Events and Cultural Coordinator is responsible for fostering awareness for and attendance at relevant cultural programs, artistic performances, presentations and academic activities.

Article 3:  Removal from Office

Any officer can be removed from office for failure to perform duties satisfactorily and honorably.  An officer may be removed from the office for failure to attend three consecutive meetings of the Board of Officers without a valid excuse.  Removal from office can be rendered by a two-thirds vote of the Board of Officers.  Should the President be removed, the Vice-President automatically assumes the role of president.  In all other circumstances, the Board of Officers, by a two-thirds vote, can appoint a member of the Association to fill any vacant position on the Board of Officers for the remainder of the term.  If an officer is removed they must be informed in writing by a letter from the board of officers.

Article 4:  Board of Trustees

In addition to the Board of Officers, the Association has a Board of Trustees consisting of three members.  Each member of the Board of Trustees is appointed by the Board of Officers.  The Trustees must be approved by a two-thirds vote of the Board of Officers.  The members of the Board of Trustees will serve five years.

Initially, the three members of the Board of Trustees will be appointed as follows:  one member of the Board of Trustees for a three year term, another for a four year term, and the third member of the Board of Trustees for a five year term.  After a term has been completed, an individual member of the Board of Trustees may be re-appointed by the Board of Officers.
